Richard Lyle Leonard was born in Gering, Nebraska on October 29, 1936, to Lyle Clare and Ruby Anne Leonard and died on December 15, 2013 in Salt Lake City of a rare immune disease HLH. He graduated from Gering High School in 1954, and enlisted in the Marine Corp. He graduated from the University of Wyoming as an Electrical Engineer. He was recruited by Hercules and was employed there for 34 years. He enjoyed outdoor sports, genealogy, and spending time with his family. He met the love of his life, Sandy, and they were married on Valentine's Day 1986. He is survived by his wife, Sandy; daughter Jamie, son Jim (Lisa), and daughter Kathy (Gary), grandsons Josh and Casey, granddaughter Kellie, and great-granddaughter Grace, brothers Jerry and Alan (Sharon). He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and one sister-in-law. The family would like to express deep appreciation to the staff at the Veterans Administration Medical Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VAMC in his name.
Funeral services will be held on the West Jordan Heritage Stake center, 7350 South 3200 West, on Friday, December 20, 2013 at 11:00 am. Friends may call on the family from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway (10600 South), South Jordan, and on Friday, December 20, 2013 from 9:30 until 10:30 at the Stake Center. Interment at Utah Veterans Memorial Park.
