Roger Sondrup Obituary
Roger James Sondrup, (Tude), age 88, son of James Harvey Sondrup and Mavie Delora Christensen, born on December 8, 1925, in Ephraim, Utah, passed away peacefully June 11, 2014 in St. George, Utah from complications related to Alzheimer's.
Roger was preceded in death by his father, mother, older brothers Clifford and Max, his older sister Luzon and son Brad. He is survived by his sweet wife Carrol, his younger sister Eris, daughters Sheridan England, Jennifer Yates, and sons Wayde and Jeff. He and Carrol have 18 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Roger was raised in Ephraim, Utah and loved his hometown. In 1944 he left high school early to serve in World War II. He enlisted in the US Navy and fought in the South Pacific aboard the USS Bataan, where he served as Quartermaster. Following the War he attended Utah State University where he met and married his sweetheart Carrol Nelson from Moroni, Utah, on December 17, 1947, in the Manti Temple. Roger was a great athlete and played ball for a short time with the Salt Lake City Bees baseball club. He worked for Kennecott Copper Corporation as a foreman in the refinery and retired from Kennecott.
Roger loved his family, singing, sports, gardening, hunting, fishing and playing golf. He was a fun and loving dad, grandfather and great grandfather. We love you and will miss you dad.
The family greatly appreciates the staffs of Emeritus in St. George, So. Utah Veterans Home and Journey of Hope Hospice for their kind and professional care on behalf of our father.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2014 from 9:00 to 11:00 with a funeral following at 11:00, Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah. Internment will follow immediately after services at Elysian Burial Gardens, Salt Lake City, Utah.

My Great Uncle Arch was Rogers CO on the Bataan, he is mentioned in his memoirs. Glad to see he went on to have a full and productive life like so many of those who served.

Roger was a very friendly man I have know him for 7 years he used toalways make Harmons coffee for customers thats where I met him was at Harmons he was always happy and very friendly glad I new him I will miss seeing his happy smile but now he can be at peace god bless him and his family.

Wayde, I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your Dad. He was such a fun Man. I loved him dearly. I lost both of my parents eight years ago. Time makes it easier. I wish I could have attended the funeral, but I just found out about it too late.

I worked with roger at the refinery for many years he was one of the best persons I have ever met I used to run into him at the wal mart in st. george he was always happy to see some one from his past he will be greaty missed
