I think of you regularly now that I´m back in the Czech and Slovak Republics. Every day I try to be at least a fraction of a Mission President you were to me and the many others that served under you and Sister Winder. Thank you!

I am not sure anyone will read this as I was not aware of President Winder's passing until Friday July 17, 2015. My memories of President Winder are all wonderful and uplifting. I served as a missionary in the Great California San Diego Mission for 18 months and for the first few months President and Sister Winder were my mission parents. I remember how much love and kindness he showed me, a recent convert, and how he had extended nothing but mercy and good will towards me. The love and example shown me by the Winders provided a gospel bedrock upon which I could grow and mature in the gospel. I had many wonderful spiritual experiences before my mission, but those which occurred while I served alongside others shaped me into the person I would later become. If he were still here I would remind him that we saw each other at BYU and just knowing that he was still watching over me even after my mission, helped me so much especially as the only active member in my family at the time, and when I felt lost in the sea of LDS people at the Y. The experiences I would have later in life would test the best of us as I lost everything I had except my life, but that too I offered up, as I would come to know the Saviour even more deeply through these extremities. At every juncture was the peace of knowing I was serving Christ just as I had served him under President and Sister Winder. Without that foundation I probably would have given up. Later all things taken from me by cruel hands were lovingly restored as only the Saviour can. The Winders taught me to be obedient, trust in the Lord and wait upon Him. Had I not learned these valuable lessons from them I surely would not have received the desired blessings, and come to understand His ways rather than my own. God bless Richard and Barbara Winder true disciples of Jesus Christ

Sister Winder, I am presently serving as a site missionary in Nauvoo and am slow in responding, I hope you still receive this note. What a joy to serve under you and President Winder in Salt Lake. You touched so many lives and gave us such help and example in our service there. I can still feel the happy Monday morning hugs! I love you so much and pray you will be blessed as you enter this new phase of your life. My prayers are with you. Sister Elizabeth Olsen

Sister Winder:
It is obvious that you and Brother Winder have been a significant influence for good in the lives of many, many, people. I became aware of Brother Winder's passing during my regular service in the Nauvoo Illinois Temple. When I saw his picture, a flood of memories returned of Jordan River Temple with you, and the legacy you left here in Nauvoo. I will never forget the time someone returned from visiting Nauvoo when you were serving in the presidency, and said "The Winders say hello". I couldn't believe that people of your stature would even remember me. I will always be grateful for you and your husband for that. You are in our prayers, and we express our deep love and appreciation for the lives you have and will continue to lead. Until we hopefully meet at the feet of the Savior, may the Lord's choicest and most tender blessings attend you.

Dear Sister Winder, our hearts reach out to you at this time. It seems like only yesterday we we're in the mission field with you in Czechoslovakia. Richard would always ask me to tell him what I liked in my missionary companion. It was his way of saying look for the positive, something I've learned to use in my marriage. What a simple yet powerful lesson he taught me. I remember you asking if we would consider being sealed in the Jordan River Temple since Richard could perform the ordinance. We feel so honored to have had him seal us. We will miss him........our hearts and prayers are with you and your family. We're living in Pennsylvania now so we weren't able to attend the funeral but our thoughts are with you. Sending our love,

Dear Sister Winder,
One of the best things I enjoyed while serving at the Jordan River Temple was the opportunity it gave me to meet wonderful people. I enjoyed serving with you and your sweet husband in the sealing office briefly right after we returned from our mission. But is was while I was an employee at the Temple the last two years that I got to know Brother Winder. What a kind, loving and gracious man of God. I looked forward to his weekly visits to the temple as a patron after he was released as a sealer due to advancing age. He always had a hug and kind greeting for me. I knew I was in the presence of a truly great man and disciple of Christ. His goodness lit up his face.
May the Lord bring you peace and comfort for the mortal years ahead until you are reunited with your dear companion.
With love,
Jenalyn Morden

I am grateful to have literally walked in President Winder's footsteps in Plzen, Czechoslovakia. What a treat to watch him work that first day we arrived there...40+ years after he left Plzen as a young man. I learned so much from him as a missionary and a man. Darrin Skousen (Qatar).

Dear Winder Family,
We would like to express our love and condolences to Bro Winder's family.
Just before we left to serve a mission in the Czech Prague Mission, we met with them in their home where they gave us some sage advice about the mission. Thank you Sister Winder.
The last few years we have seen Bro Winder in the Jordan River Temple every Wednesday morning where we exchanged a happy Dobry Den with him. We will surely miss his friendship and great smile. He was and is, a wonderful and faithful man.

I served my mission under President and Sister Winder in San Diego. As a fairly new member to the church I was not as prepared as many of my fellow missionaries. It was the deep heart to heart conversations I had with President and Sister Winder that got me through my mission. My life was forever changed by their love and compassion. My heart felt condolences go out the entire Winder family.

You are in my heart and prayers during this difficult time. Although we know how happy Richard is, it's still a difficult time of separation, although it's mercifully temporary. I know that my sweet mother was very, very fond of you both and she has given me that love for you also. God bless you all!

President and Sister Winder were at my baptism in the Czech Republic. I will never forget the love I felt from him and his wife. He and his sweet wife served tirelessly, attended every baptism, every branch. When I met him again a couple of years ago he instantly remembered my name and where I was from even though it was nearly 20 years since we spoke last and I felt the same love for me personally and the people in the Czech Republic. I will miss you President Winder!

Beloved Sister Winder and Family, I express to you and your family my heartfelt sympathy at the passing of your beloved husband, father and grandfather, but at the same time rejoice with you in celebrating his graduation from this earth school summum cum laud!
My beloved fellow sealer was a model of humility, courage, and steadfast devotion to his family and the Church. His example of devotion as a husband, father and grandfather influenced the lives of loved ones and all with whom he came in contact. I am confident your family members will take comfort in the quality of his life and in the memories you share of his abiding love for each and every one. His success in life was due to his loving eternal sweetheart.
Although there is no substitute for the physical presence for a dear companion and father, I pray your knowledge of the gospel will be a source of peace and you will feel the comforting influence of the Holy Spirit. I also pray you may be sustained at this tender time of parting and in the years ahead by that Spirit which comes from Him who said,"I will not leave you comfortless: I wlll come to you." ( John 14;18) I send you my love and blessings.
