David Hampton Obituary

April 28, 1997 ~ April 12, 2016
Our wonderful son, brother, and friend was called home by our Heavenly Father as he was faithfully serving as a full-time missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Taiwan Taichung Mission. His work in the mission field and upon this earth ended as the result of injuries sustained by being hit by a car after falling from his bicycle. David is survived by his parents Steve and Cyndi, his five sisters Sarah (Daniel Brown), Rebekah, Elizabeth, Hannah, and Mary, and his best friend and brother, Joseph. He also leaves behind loving grandparents, a nephew, aunts, uncles, and many cousins.
David loved many things - puppies, mock trial, ballroom dance, debate, piano, plays, and being active. He loved to help other people: "It's not about you," is how he signed off his mission letters. He was an exceptional example and leader to his friends. He was very funny and his sense of humor helped lift others. He never did things just because everyone else was doing it, but always questioned whether things were right. He was persuasive, whether it was getting ice cream for the whole gang, or protecting an underdog, he was there to argue for it. David wanted to be an attorney so he could help people.
David had an outgoing, fun-loving passion for life that always brought a smile to those whose paths' he crossed. He reveled in spending summers at Bear Lake with family and friends, and hiking in southern Utah. He loved his many close friends, and above all, his family and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He spent his life doing what he loved, and died doing exactly what he wanted to be doing. We will miss him very much, and are grateful for the time we had with him. We look forward to meeting him again, because of our Savior who makes it possible for us to be together again as a family.
"I guess everyone needs to be reminded that they will not always be a blazing fire to people. Sometimes all we are is a firefly with our light blinking on and off. But we need to remember that even though fireflies are tiny they still stand out against the night.....Shine your light no matter how small it might be." Elder David Hampton
A gathering of family and friends will take place on Monday, April 25, 2016 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the North Ogden Coldwater Stake Center, 2100 N.770 E., North Ogden. David will be remembered on Tuesday, April 26, 2016, beginning at 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by his Memorial Services at 1:00 p.m., taking place at the Coldwater Stake Center in North Ogden, Utah, with burial at Ben Lomond Cemetery in North Ogden.
Our family wishes to express loving gratitude to all of our dear friends and neighbors who have reached out with tenderness and concern during this time of sorrow. So sorry for this tragedy but know David must have been very special to be taken home to his Father in Heaven on his mission. I'm sure he is needed to teach the gospel in the spirit world. May you have peace and comfort in a life well lived.

I had the privilege of getting to know David at get-togethers with the Briggs family, watching the plays he was in, at my house with my grandchildren and friends and even being helped by him at Lees Market. I never saw him without a big smile on his face. He was always friendly and kind. I'm going to miss seeing him with my grandchildren and their friends. My sympathy to his family, his friends and other loved ones.

Although we didn't know David personally, we do know his Mother and we know his grandparents, Kent and Colleen well. We recognize in his engaging smile the sense of humor, concern for others and love of life they have passed along to him, as well as many other admirable qualities we're sure he has inherited and learned from his mother, father and other family members. We can only imagine the wrenching pain this temporary separation brings, but what a noble way to exit mortality, in the service of Christ. Please know of our love and unceasing prayers for those he has left behind. Paradise must be a little richer for his arrival, and this world is a little richer, too, for having known such an honorable young man. Sincerest condolences, Ken and Sue Lundmark
