DELBERT MARTIN Delbert passed away March 30th, 2013 at the age of 68 with his family by his side. Delbert was born March 13th, 1945 in Hamilton, Ohio to Rose Mae & Hiram Martin. With the promise of work and little opportunity at home, in 1963 he moved west for a job at Kaiser Steel, Fontana where he worked until its closing. During that time he was drafted into the Army as a cook, and would often tell the family he taught Mom how to cook. He felt very fortunate to be sent to Germany while many of his friends were sent to war. After Kaiser Steel closed, Delbert was hired by the California Department of Corrections, where he worked as an officer until his retirement in 2003. Although he couldn't get around as easily as he wanted, you would still find Delbert on his scooter at his grandchildren's softball and baseball games all across Southern California rooting them on. He will be remembered for the love he had for his family, our amazing cross-country family vacations and his tremendous self-sacrifice & work ethic. He is survived by his wife Mary of 32 years, sons Preston and Chris, daughter Katrina and numerous grandchildren. In lieu of a memorial we're taking Dad fishing.
