ALMA Z. HAILEY Alma Z. Hailey (AKA Honey) was born February 17, 1961 to the union of Robert L. and Mary Ellen Hailey in Barstow, California. She was the eighth of nine children. Alma attended Waterman Elementary School, Barstow Junior High School and graduated in the class of 1979 from Barstow High School, Barstow, California. She participated in youth sports throughout her childhood and played volleyball at the high school level. She knew the importance of higher education; she attended California State Hayward University to pursue her degree in Nursing. While in college, her father passed away at which time Alma returned home to assist with the needs of the family. Through the years Alma cared for the entire Hailey family and helped raise several of her nieces and nephews. She was the primary caregiver to her mom who suffered from Alzheimer's. Alma worked for IAP Worldwide Services from June 2000 to October 2010 due to a stroke that forever changed her life. Alma fought a courageous battle to overcome the disabilities brought on by the stroke. While recovering, she attended the Barstow Hispanic Foursquare Church under the leadership of Pastors Fielfer and Zoila Murga. She truly enjoyed hearing the Word of God told to her by her Pastors and often joked of how each message was meant just for her. More than anything she felt the love of God through the members of her church. Alma enjoyed the simple things in life. She loved working out in her garden, trying new recipes and cheering on her beloved Pittsburgh Steelers. Her favorite holiday was Thanksgiving as she loved to cook. She dreamed of opening her own cafe and sharing traditional family meals with the community. The Lord saw fit to call home His servant Alma Z. Hailey from labor to reward on February 25, 2013. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers Leslie (Pete) Hailey, McGregory (Mack) Hailey and Willie L. Hailey Sr. Alma leaves to cherish in her memory three brothers, Robert Jr. (Brenda) Hailey and Barney Hailey both of Sacramento, California and Chester (Verlina) Hailey of Gilbert, Arizona. Sisters, Athena Clay and Beatrice Mattingly of Barstow, California. Sister in law's, Patricia and Mary Hailey of Barstow and Karyn Hailey of Rancho Cucamonga. Godmother, Lorean Dew and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Special thanks to her caregivers Lisa Trujillo and Mary Lou Montiel, as well as her neighbor, Kay Baca, who faithfully came over to assist her with anything she needed. The Celebration of Life Service for Alma Z. Hailey will be held at Union Missionary Baptist Church, 1360 Riverside Dr. Barstow Ca, 11 a.m. on Monday March 4, 2013. A reception following the burial will be held at Barstow Hispanic Foursquare Church 235 E. Main St. Barstow, Ca. Arrangements entrusted to Horizon Memorial Services of Barstow.
