Dennis Lee Goodwin, 60, of Barstow, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Dec. 20, 2010. He was a wonderful man who will be missed by family and friends.
Dennis was born in Washington, D.C., on Feb. 26, 1950, to James and Marlyn Goodwin. He was the second of eight children and he grew up all over the country. He graduated from Santiago High School in Garden Grove in 1968. He married his first wife the same year, and they had three sons together. He met his second wife, Cassandra Garrett, in 1985 when they were next-door neighbors. They married the next year and had two daughters. Dennis raised his two young daughters when he lost Cassie to cancer in 1995. He was a devoted and loving father, and he will be dearly missed.
Dennis was a miner at US Borax for more than 30 years. He was a staunch supporter of his union, ILUW Local 30. Once his kids were out of the house he took to riding ATVs all over the desert. He also enjoyed searching for lost gold mines and playing video games on his computer.
Dennis is survived by his children, Andrea Goodwin of Turlock, Sandra Siegel and her husband, Hugo of Arcata, Scott Goodwin of Orlando, Florida, Darrell Goodwin of New Orleans, Louisiana, and Dennis Goodwin Jr. of Las Vegas, Nevada; siblings, Jim (Rita) Goodwin, Linda (Donald) Smart, Diane Williams, Lawrence Goodwin, Bonnie Goodwin, Bill Goodwin, and Sharon Lumsden; three grandchildren and one great grandchild. He also left behind many nieces, nephews, family members, close friends and caring neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Cassie Goodwin.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010 at Mead Mortuary Chapel, 36930 Irwin Road, Barstow.
