MERLE GEORGE 3/23/1919 - 6/27/2014 Merle George, age 95, quietly passed away Friday, June 27 at Sterling Inn in Victorville, her home since 2005. There, Merle's unique blend of sassy and sweet endeared her to all who knew her, and she was cared for with exceptional compassion. Born in Provo, Utah, Merle resided in Southern California most of her life. She met Don George, with whom she enjoyed 55 years of marriage, while they both worked for Southern California Edison. Don's careers with Edison and the US Navy led the couple to various communities including Pomona, Oceanside, San Bernardino, Lakewood and finally to Upland where Merle lived for 47 years before moving to Victorville. Merle took an active interest in each community, including membership in the First United Methodist Church, leadership and volunteer positions in numerous civic and charitable organizations, and employment with the City of Upland. She made lifelong friendships along the way, and was never happier than when working with a group on a community effort, gathering with family and friends, or traveling with her grandchildren. Merle was preceded in death by her husband Don George in 1995. She is survived by her three daughters: Pam Milam (Bill) of Cupertino, Barbara Nevidomsky of Apple Valley, and Donna Lee (Dan) of Salinas, as well as five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Memorial arrangements are being handled by Draper Mortuary in Ontario. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the United Methodist Women, 262 North Euclid Avenue, Upland CA 91786.
