As a teenager, Mike's 6'6" stature gave him an edge on the baseball field. He loved baseball and prior to college he was drafted in the Minor Leagues by the White Sox. After injuries ended a baseball career, Mike attended University of Santa Clara and graduated from Stanford University with a degree in business. He went to work as a salesman for Newton T Bass at Apple Valley Ranchos during the early days of development of Apple Valley. Many remember "Tex" playing his guitar around the camp fire at the Apple Valley Inn Steak Frys. When he retired from Apple Valley Ranchos, which had been acquired by Getty Oil, he opened his own real estate office, Apple Valley Real Estate, and continued to devote his life to his passion of owning real estate in Apple Valley. On May 5, 1962, he married his beloved Gretchen. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the Mission Inn in Riverside. Mike loved to travel, touring five continents. He also had a passion for the Olympics, both summer and winter, attending many of them, and when not attending, glued to the television. He was an avid golfer, and founder member of Apple Valley Country Club. Mike was also a founder member of St. Timothy's Episcopal Church in Apple Valley. As a teenager Mike worked summers at the Russian River camp for the prestigious Bohemian Club and when he was 41 years old, was invited into membership. Mike also enjoyed his membership with Rotary Apple Valley. Mike is survived by his wife Gretchen, his son Timothy and stepdaughter Gae, grandsons Luke, Tyler and Justin.
