Fred died Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Sunnybrook of Adel. He was 71.
A visitation with family present will be held 3 to 6 p.m., Saturday, January 5 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset. A memorial service will be held 2:30 p.m., Sunday, January 6 at the Winterset Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Memorials may be made to the Winterset Seventh-Day Adventist Church or the Food Bank of Iowa in Des Moines. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.ochiltree.com.
Frederick Dale Bomar was born September 18, 1941, in Madison County, Iowa; the son of Olin and Evelyn (Rinard) Bomar. Fred grew up in Madison County and later graduated from Winterset High School in 1960. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served until 1964. His marriage to Myrtle Janice Flanery took place on November 25, 1966, at the Bear Creek Friends Church near Earlham.
Fred worked for Nott Company for 38 years, retiring in 2006 as a branch manager. He was a member of the Winterset Seventh-Day Adventist Church and the American Legion Post #403 of Van Meter. He enjoyed watching sports but his favorite past time was spending time with his grandchildren.
Fred is survived by his wife, Myrtle Bomar; two daughters, Natalie Bomar and Rachel (Alan) Backstrom all of Van Meter. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Emma and Nicholas Backstrom; siblings, Darla Flanery of Aurora, CO; Bob (Sherri) Bomar of Lancaster, OH; Dan Bomar of Des Moines and Kathy (David) Quakenbush of Goreham, KS.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jack Bomar.
