Joseph Franklin Noble

Clive

Joseph F. "Joe" Noble, 90, formerly of Windsor Heights, passed from this life on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at the Village at Legacy Pointe in Waukee. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 29, at St. Theresa's Catholic Church, located at 1230 Merle Hay Road in Des Moines, where the family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service time on Monday. Committal services will take place at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 30, at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel.

Joe was born on November 24, 1922, in Omaha, Nebraska to Everett John and Josephine Anna (Sedlak) Noble. He was a graduate of Plattsmouth High School, of which Joe became a star athlete. For two years, he attended the University of Nebraska, and participated on the Cornhusker's Football team. In 1943, Joe was drafted by the army, passed the V-12 program and chose to enlist with the U.S. Navy and served during World War II. The navy sent Joe to Iowa State University in Ames, where he not only earned his Engineering Degree, Joe was the starting quarterback for the Iowa State Cyclones. In 1944, with Joe at the helm, Iowa State fielded one of the best teams ever, posting a 6-1-1 record with a controversial loss to Oklahoma, it's only blemish. The navy trained Joe to be a deep-sea diver/salvage officer and in 1946, was ordered to the Manila Bay, Philippines.

In 1945, Joe married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Elizabeth Joan "Betty" Libershal in Plattsmouth, NE and their marriage was blessed with five children. They moved to Windsor Heights in 1968, where they made their home. Joe was employed with Westinghouse Electric for 40 years, retiring in 1986, as the District Sales Manager.

He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Betty Noble of Clive; four daughters, JoAnn (Richard) Engel of Indianapolis, IN, Carla (Bruce) Berlin of Urbandale, Mary Jean (William) Morrissey of Batavia, IL and Elizabeth (James) Faunce of North Aurora, IL; son, Michael (Rebecca) Noble of Hermosa Beach, CA; and 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Joe was preceded into eternal life by his parents; and three half-brothers.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to everyone at The Woodlands and all the staff of Senior Helpers, especially Aviva, Jane and Nicki for all their care, love and support.

Joe was my manager early in my career in Iowa, and was always a gentlemen. He helped to mold me from a brash young sales engineer into a career account manager now in my 38th year with the company. My sympathy to Betty and the family, but warm memories of a great human being.

I loved sitting and talking with Joe and Betty. I am a SCUBA diver also, but not to the level at which Joe was at. I am one of the Chefs at Woodlands Creek. My thoughts & prayers are with all of you.
