Joseph "Pete" Melcher, 54, died September 7, 2013 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Pete was born February 14, 1959 in Des Moines to Joe and Barbara Melcher. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1977 and Grandview University in 1981.

Pete worked for Custom Christmas Lighting in Minneapolis. He was loved by all who met him, he never met a stranger and he helped those in need. Pete enjoyed boating and water sports, traveling the U.S. and abroad. Pete was an avid storyteller.

Pete is survived by his mother, Barbara Melcher; brother, Matt (Shannon) Melcher; sister, Mary Jo (Mike) Romanco; nephews, Michael and Kyle; and his niece, Jillian. He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Melcher and his grandparents.

Burial will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 21, 2013 at Woodlawn Cemetery in Lovilia, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
