Pollock, Carol - West Des Moines
Carol Pollock West Des Moines Carol Pollock, 70, passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord on May 15, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer. Her wishes were to be cremated and no services are planned. Carol was born in Belvidere, IL to Margaret and Nevin Pollock who preceded her in death. She is survived by her sister, Joanne Pollock (Randy Cagnoni); three brothers, Kenneth Pollock, Rick Pollock (Cheryl) and Don Pollock (Robin); and eight nieces and nephews. Carol attended Northern Illinois University and had a 13 year career in radio at WROK/WZOK in Rockford, IL until she was recruited to be part of the original staff that opened up the MetroCentre, now called BMO Harris Bank Center. She quickly fell in love with the entertainment business and after 5 years was offered the opportunity to manage the historic Saenger Theatre in Pensacola, FL and then moved up to the 10,000 seat Pensacola Civic Center and remained there for 13 years. When an offer came from the San Antonio Spurs to move to Texas and work at the AT&T Center, it was an offer she could not pass up! She remained an avid fan of her beloved San Antonio Spurs. Carol also worked a short time at the Alamodome until she was recruited by Venuworks to move back to the Midwest to operate the beautiful historic Hoyt Sherman Place in Des Moines, IA. Carol was recognized by the Pensacola News Journal as one of 12 successful women in leadership roles and was a founder of "On the Waterfront", Illinois' largest music festival that annually drew over 350,000 people to downtown Rockford during its 29 year run. She often told her friends and family that "going to work every day to an office in a historic mansion surrounded by beautiful art and a gorgeous theater was a dream job for her." It was Carol's wish that any memorials be directed to the Hoyt Sherman Place Foundation.
