Poulson, Dr. Donald L. - Urbandale  
Dr. Donald L. Poulson, D.D.S. Urbandale Dr. Donald L. Poulson, D.D.S., 84, of Urbandale died peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, June 26, 2016. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 29 at Iles Funeral Homes - Westover Chapel. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 30 at First Christian Church, 2500 University Ave., Des Moines. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery. Don was born in Stratford, IA on April 29, 1932 to Oris and Mildred (Deo) Poulson. He attended school in Boxholm, IA before moving to Des Moines. He graduated from North High School in 1950, where he played on the varsity baseball and basketball teams. He then served in the U.S. Air Force as a dental technician. Don carried his passion and skills for dentistry on to dental school at the University of Iowa where he met, Marilyn Picht, his future wife. They married June 9, 1957 and settled in Des Moines where they started a family and Don built his dental practice which culminated in the formation of Dental Associates in West Des Moines. Don enjoyed the Iowa Hawkeyes and St. Louis Cardinals. Friends were important to Don, especially Thursdays with the golf group and Saturdays with his long-time dinner companions. Those left to cherish Don's memory include his wife, Marilyn of Urbandale; three children, Greg (Sheri) Poulson of West Des Moines, James (Shelly) Poulson of Johnston and Pam (Brad) Brown of Clive; four grandchildren, Lauren and Meredith Brown and Kylie and Jack Poulson. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Glenn Poulson and sister, Norma Sicheneder. Don's family wishes to thank the compassionate staff of Deerfield Skilled Care and UnityPoint Hospice. Thomas Poulter Carlisle Thomas Fillmore Poulter passed away peacefully at home on June 21, 2016, He is survived by his wife Shirley, and his 5 children, Monica Poulter, Teresa Ford (Geoff), Bonnie White (Steve), Steven Poulter, Michael Poulter (Kim), a sister Grace Hileman, 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents Fillmore and Lucille, and a brother Theodore. A memorial/visitation with family will be held Saturday, June 25, 2016 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Petersons Funeral home in Carlisle. Rasmussen, Donald E. "Gene" - Urbandale  
Donald E. "Gene" Rasmussen Urbandale Gene Rasmussen, 85, passed away Monday, June 27, 2016 at Methodist Hospital. Memorial services will be held 4 p.m. Thursday at McLaren's Resthaven Chapel. Visitation with the family will be from 3 p.m. until service time Thursday. Gene was born in Kimballton, IA to Jens and Altje Rasmussen. He grew up in Anita, IA and served in the U.S. Army. Gene was a graduate of Simpson College and received his MBA from the University of Northern Colorado. He taught science in Prescott, IA before going to Meredith Junior High in Des Moines where he taught industrial arts for many years. Gene had been a member of the Lions Club, West Des Moines Methodist Church, and the YEWS. He loved to work out at the YMCA and walked nearly every day. Gene enjoyed travel, especially cruises, and went to Romania with his brother to help build a church. He also enjoyed several outdoor activities including camping and fishing. He is survived by two sons, David (Monica) of St. Paul, MN and Rolland of Des Moines; daughter, Donna (Joe) Cambre of Blue Springs, MO; four grandchildren, Heather, Melissa, Hunter, and Rose; step-daughter and family, Cheryl (Charles) Finney of Bettendorf, IA; and two brothers, John of Santa Barbara, CA and Bob (Lori) of Webb City, MO. Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Helenjane Merrick and a sister, Ellen Hoeck. Memorial contributions may be directed to any Des Moines area Lions Club.

Richards, Richard Lee - Des Moines  
Richard Lee Richards Des Moines Richard Lee Richards was born on July 31, 1952, to Lee Bolton Richards and Irene Klein Richards in Eldora, IA. He passed away on June 28, 2016, surrounded by his family in Des Moines, IA. His family lived in Webster City where he graduated from high school and began his love of performing in the theater and singing. He graduated from Augustana College (now University) in Sioux Falls, SD and went on to graduate from Drake University with a law degree in 1977. His career in the legal profession took him from the Iowa Attorney General's Office to the Polk County Prosecutors office, and from 1983 until his retirement at the end of October, 2015, to the US Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Iowa. He loved the various aspects of the law he practiced as a public servant. On August 26, 1978, he married Sylvia Versteeg in Sioux Falls, SD. Together they raised three children, Nicholas of Denver, CO, Paige of Toledo, OH, and Michael of Coralville, IA. Richard was well known by his friends, co-workers, family, and the community for his booming voice, singing ability, and flair for the dramatic at home, in the courtroom, and on the stage. Through the years he has performed in many productions at the Des Moines Community Playhouse, The Drama Workshop, Des Moines Metro Opera and Repertory Theater of Iowa. Outside of Iowa he had performed at The Nashville Opera, the Pensacola Opera and the Wamego Theater in Wamego, KS. He also shared his singing voice with the choirs and members of First Christian Church, St. John's Lutheran Church, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, and Temple B'nai Jeshurun. Surviving him are his wife, Sylvia; and children, Nick (Kate), Paige (Eric) Albjerg, and Michael (Eliza Kelley); brother, Kevin and his wife, Dawn of LeMars, IA; his brother-in-law and his wife, Maurice and Vickie Versteeg of Sioux Falls, SD; five nephews, Todd (Marci) and Lynn (Becky) Versteeg, Ian (Christa), Colin, and Evan Richards; niece, Shari (Chad) VanderWoude; and a host of cousins, extended family and friends. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Irene Richards; a still-born son, William; and his father and mother-in-law, Marion and Henrietta Versteeg. A special thank you to Dr. Tom Buroker, his staff, and the staff of Powell 3. Memorials may be directed to St. John's Lutheran Church, First Christian Church, or Repertory Theater of Iowa.
