Flatt, Jay - Des Moines  
Jay Flatt Des Moines Jay Flatt, 74, passed away peacefully in the loving arms of his wife and son Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center after a long battle with COPD and congestive heart failure. Jay was born March 12, 1940 in Des Moines to Irvin and Marie Flatt. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1958. Jay founded Flatt Tire Center in 1969 and retired in 2001. He enjoyed working in his yard, mowing and golfing. Jay's greatest joy in life came from spending time with his beloved grandchildren and family. Jay is survived by his wife of 51 years, Penny; son, Jordy (Michelle) Flatt; grandchildren, Aubrey, Harper, Oliver and Daphne (on the way); brother-in-law, Bob (Grace) Squaires; sister-in-law, Deborah Hartman; many nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Jim, Jean Marie, Jerry, Jack, Joan, Janet, Joe and Jeorge; and his brother-in-law, Johnny Hartman. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. The funeral service will be held Friday at 12 p.m. at the funeral home followed by burial at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Orillia, Iowa. Graham, Doris Maxine - West Des Moines  
Doris Maxine Graham West Des Moines Doris Maxine Graham 90, peacefully departed this life for her heavenly home on February 24, 2015, at Manor Care in West Des Moines, Iowa. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 27, 2015, at 2:00 PM at The Cathedral Church of St Paul, 815 High Street, Des Moines, Iowa. Born in Des Moines on December 19, 1924, Maxine attended public schools here and graduated from North High School in 1942. After graduation she moved to Oakland, California, where she was employed by the Department of Human Services. An opportunity to work for the school system in the Head Start-Follow Through Program as a home school worker brought her back to Des Moines. Maxine obtained her bachelors and masters degrees in education from Drake University and began her teaching career at Garton Elementary School. She loved being in the classroom, and she set high standards for herself as well as for her students. In 1990 she retired as a teacher of Language Arts at Goodrell Middle School. In retirement, Maxine enjoyed reading, cooking, sewing, traveling with her husband, Herman, in their motor home, and making friends wherever they went. For many years they enjoyed winters in Arizona. Maxine was devoted to her family. She is survived by Herman Sr., her husband of 40 years, her sons, Kevin (Tamera) Guess and Michael Guess; her stepchildren, Herman Jr. (Belinda), Marilynn (Fred) Liddell, Cheryl (William) Anderson, six grandchildren; Emily Schlenker, Maxine Jackson, William Jackson, Kevin Porter, Herman Graham III and Anthony Weston and a host of relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Curtis M. and Ethel Cooley, her special family Branham, Stella and Robert Hyde, her first husband, Frank Guess, two brothers, Marvin and Eugene Cooley, sister, Veltry Cooley, and stepdaughter Frankie Bridges. Guenther, Nicole Lee "Niki" - Des Moines  
Nicole "Niki" Lee Guenther Des Moines Nicole "Niki" Lee Guenther, 28, passed away Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Niki was born March 10, 1986 in Des Moines. Her greatest gift in life was being a mother and her entire world revolved around her boys. She was an amazing, loving, wonderful mom. Niki had made a huge impact on so many lives with her "tell it like it is" attitude that you couldn't help but love and her quirky personality. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Niki is survived by her fiance, Randy McNear; sons, Trenten, Layne, Levi and Jayse; parents, Marna Guenther and Bill Davis; father, Ed Guenther; siblings, Mark (Megan) Davis, Carissa (Toby) Thompson, Lacy (Luis Garcia) Guenther; and a host of extended family and loving friends. The family will greet friends Friday, February 27, 2015 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Hamman, Arlene - Perry  
Arlene Hamman perry Arlene 88, died February 22, at the Rowley Masonic Home in Perry. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 26, at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry. Open visitation will be on Wednesday starting at 1:00 p.m. until 6:00p.m.Visitation will continue with the family present at 9:00 a.m. Thursday preceding the funeral service. Arlene Lorraine Hamman, daughter of Willis William Mastin and Atla Elizabeth Gardiner Mastin, was born July 21, 1926 in Cedar Rapids, IA and died February 22, 2015 at the Rowley Memorial Masonic Home in Perry, IA. Arlene grew up in Cedar Rapids, then moved to Perry her Junior year, later graduating high school. After high school she worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. On February 11, 1946 Arlene and Ed Hamman were united in marriage. The couple was blessed with a daughter Sandra. Arlene worked for Swifts Meat Packing, Mutt-Smithsons Grocery, Mrs. Wilson's Grocery and the Perry Daily Chief. She was not afraid to work. Arlene was a wonderful mother, helping Sandra with her projects. She always referred to Sandy as her "Side Kick". She enjoyed cross stitch, knitting, ceramics, and visiting with her many friends. Arlene was a tiny lady, but almost a human dynamo. Arlene loved the Perry Rec Center and put a lot of energy and time into it. She lined up volunteers for Wednesday dinners and collected the payments for the dinners. Being a very generous person, she saw to it that the meal site had beautiful Fiesta dinnerware. Her generosity and love of Perry led her to share her knowledge of Perry and research time with the Hotel Pattee in the decorating of their beautiful rooms. Arlene compiled a history of the Perry Railroads which is exhibited at the Forest Park Museum. She enjoyed working with the Perry Historical Preservation Committee, especially placing the bronze plaques around downtown Perry. Arlene (and Sandy) loved to decorate for all holidays. She also loved playing cards especially, Pinochle and Hand & Foot. Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ed Hamman, and two brothers Earl Mastin and Gaylord Mastin. Arlene is survived by and will be greatly missed by her daughter Sandra Gordon of Boone, IA; two grandchildren Shari James (Jimmy) of Sioux Falls, SD, and Marty Gordon of Wichita, KS; three great-grandchildren: Samantha James, Natalie James and Jackson James; sisters-in-law Phyllis Mastin of Burke, VA, Betty Hoffman of CA and Patricia Hamman of Des Moines, IA; brother-in-law Jerry Hamman (Marilyn) of Manchester, IA; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Grace Kaitlynn Heisler Urbandale Grace K. Heisler, 14, left her family and friends on February 23, 2015. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, February 28, 2015 at Merle Hay Funeral Home with burial to follow at Chapel Hill Gardens. Grace will be deeply missed by her aunt and uncle, Steve and Tina Twist; her mother, Deanna; brothers, John and Zach; grandparents, Dan and Sandy Heisler; aunt, Danielle; close cousins, Brooklyn Twist, Caleb and Harlie Sellner; along with more aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. She also leaves behind her beloved cat and best friend, Oreo and her dog, Buddy. A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M., Friday, February 27, 2015 at Merle Hay Funeral Home. Hutt, William C. "Bill" - Iowa City  
William "Bill" C. Hutt Iowa City William "Bill" C. Hutt, 82, of Iowa City, formerly of Colfax, died Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at Lantern Park Nursing and Rehab Center in Coralville. Bill was born August 18, 1932 in Osceola, the son of Orlin B. and Pearl Thompson Hutt. He graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1950 and attended Bowling Green University for one year before entering the Air Force. He served in the US Air Force from 1951 to 1955. Bill received his Bachelor of Arts degree in music education from the University of Iowa in 1959, where he was a member of the Iowa Hawkeye Marching Band, playing both the Alto Sax and Clarinet. He marched in the 1957 Rose Bowl parade. On May 21st, 1960 he married Marlene Dolinsek at the Colfax United Presbyterian Church. Bill spent most of his career in sales and manufacturing in the Newton and Des Moines area. He retired in 1995 from Firestone. He was a member of University of Iowa alumni marching band for 35 years, New Horizons Band, City of Newton Band, Colfax Jazz Band, Newton Jaycees. He enjoyed Civil War history and loved listening to Big Band and Classical Music. Bill also served on the advisory committee for Easter Seals. No services are planned at this time. Memorial donations may be made to the Coralville Center for Performing Arts or New Horizons Band. Survivors include his loving wife, Marlene and their daughter, Jan (Mike) Finlayson; granddaughter, Gabby, all of Iowa City; his sister, Dixie Dailey of Shenandoah. Donald Jennings De Soto Donald E. Jennings, 81, of De Soto, Iowa passed away, February 23. Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, February 28 at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery in De Soto. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home where family will greet friends from 5-8 p.m. Don was born August 20, 1933 in Madison, Missouri to Valaska B. and Pauline Jennings. His passions were his family, fishing, gardening, golfing and playing cards. Don worked many years at Firestone as a supervisor. He served in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Japan for several years. Don is survived by his wife Dixie, Daughters, Tawnia (Dennis) Olson and Donette (Tad) Stanley, Step-children, Connie (Dick) Thompson, Denise (Dan) Forret and Terrell (Vernone) Meldrem and Vicky (Mark) Benshoff, 20 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson. Lanette Joanne LeCroy Des Moines Lanette Joanne LeCroy, 50, passed away Saturday, February 21, 2015 as the result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. Lanette was born October 27, 1964 in Des Moines, Iowa to Jack and Druecilla (Hathaway) LeCroy. She graduated from East High School in 1983 and earned her BA from William Penn in Oskaloosa. She was a very gifted, athletic person. She was on Team USA as a tri-athlete and competed in Iron Woman competitions. Lanette loved motorcycles and grew up in that environment. She was proud that she had recently purchased her first Harley that she named "Scarlet." She loved her family and loved children. She had met the love of her life, her "prince," Jon. Lanette is survived by her parents; brother, Lonnie (Crystal); aunt, Lynda (Raymond) Ratliff; nephews, Andrew and Joshua; and her uncles, aunts, and her large extended family. She was preceded in death by her grandparents. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 27, 2015 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 28 at Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3615 University Avenue. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
