McKinny, Mary Jo - Des Moines  
Mary Jo McKinny Des Moines Mary Jo McKinny, 67, passed away on March 21, 2015. She was born October 25, 1947, in Des Moines, Iowa, where she lived most of her life. As a young girl, she traveled with her family as her Father was in the military. She was always quick to make friends wherever they called home. She was a resident of Mainstream Living, Inc., for years. She was very happy there and was known as the "Matriarch" to housemates and staff. Mary Jo was an outgoing person, happy, fun and loved people. She was an active participant in the Special Olympics program and won many blue ribbons. She looked forward to returning to Camp Sunnyside each year with her friends. Mary Jo is survived by her mother, Donna McKinny and sister, Kathleen McKinny both of Vero Beach, Florida, as well as a loving extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Alexander McKinny and her brothers, Daniel G. McKinny (Laura) and Thomas P. McKinny (Candice). Memorial Services will be held Thursday, April 9, 2015, from 2:00 - 4:00 pm at Saylorville Church, 6429 NW 6th Drive, Des Moines, Iowa 50313. Condolences may be expressed at

McMahill, Rex - Ankeny  
Rex McMahill Ankeny Rex passed away on March 23 at the age of 91. He was born to Earl and Nella McMahill on April 30, 1923 in Bedford, Iowa. He graduated from Gravity High School and joined the U.S. Navy right after the start of W.W. II and spent 5 years on various ships in the Pacific theater. He married his high school sweetheart Marton Hayes in 1945. They had one son, Randy Rex. In the early '50's he purchased the Chevrolet and Buick Dealership in Gladbrook, Ia. He later was appointed State Car Dispatcher and also Superintendent of Capitol Buildings and Grounds by then Governor Norman Erbie. Of the positions Rex held, the one he enjoyed most was his post-retirement decade as a Teacher's Associate at Ankeny High School. He took pride in helping Special Needs students with local work experience. Rex is survived by his wife Marton, son Randy (Jan), granddaughters Lindsay (Josh) Zamzow, Margo (Geoff) Marler and great granddaughter Raiella Marler. He is survived by two younger brothers, a sister, relatives and friends. Two things special to Rex were spending time with his granddaughters as they were growing up and the game of golf. On May 31st, Rex and Marton would have celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary. A private family memorial service will be held with burial of cremains at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Van Meter.

Moore, Jeanne - Des Moines  
Jeanne Moore Des Moines Jeanne Moore, 89, passed away March 22, 2015 at Unity Point Health Des Moines Methodist. Jeanne was born November 9, 1925 in Leon, Iowa to Rowe and Helen Martindale. She attended Drake University and in 1946, she married Jack Moore. Jeanne was the secretary at Callanan Middle School for over 30 years and later served as administrative assistant for the Des Moines School Board. She was a Daughters of the Nile-Past Queen and was a member of Eastern Star. Jeanne is survived by her husband; Jack Moore; children, Jacquelyn (Michael) Mehan and Dennis (Kari) Moore; grandchildren, Mark Gerhardt, Corey Moore and Callie Moore; and a host of beloved friends. Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street followed by burial at the Masonic Cemetery. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be expressed at .

Moore, John - Windsor Heights  
John Moore Windsor Heights John (Jack) Moore, 98, passed away at home March 29, 2015. He donated his body to Des Moines University. Jack served in the U.S. Army Air Corp in World War II and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross in 1944. He was a retired member of the Operating Engineers Local 234. Jack is survived by his wife of 72 years, Zola; his children, Luke (Diane) Jenner, Gary (Elaine) Moore, Donna (Jack) Granger; grandchildren, Ross and Brett Jenner, Jacqueline Moore and Lee and Elizabeth Granger. Jack's family is especially grateful to his neighbors for their long term friendship. A memorial service will be held on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Windsor United Methodist Church, 6222 University Avenue in Des Moines, Iowa.
