Pauline M. Stubbs, 71, died Saturday, June 25, 2011 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Iles Funeral Homes-Dunn's Chapel. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery.

Pauline was born on June 11, 1940 in Leon, IA, one of the 18 children of William and Gertrude (O'Bryan) Fugate. She grew up in Webster City, IA and moved to Des Moines in 1959. She and William Merrill Stubbs were married on June 24, 1961. She worked in a variety of office jobs and attended AIB from 1976-1977.

Pauline had been a volunteer at Birthright and a Girl Scout Leader. She created crafts such as quilts and paintings. She enjoyed horseback riding and computers. She was a member of the Catholics of Kentucky, Maryland Genealogical Society.

Pauline is survived by her husband, Merrill; three children, Lynnette Gramenz, Phillip (Christine) Stubbs and Pamela (Todd) McCullough; eight grandchildren, Ashley, Erik, Shawn, Ryan, Sheena, Korey, Tyler and Shelby; five sisters, Francie (Martin) Lundvall, Beatrice (Richard) Essex, Carol (Rob) Kurland, Rita (Al) Siepker and Ruth Fugate; five brothers, Leo (Marian), Bernie (Jean), Paul (Kathy), Bill (Sharon), and Pat (Lee) Fugate and sister-in-law Faye Fugate. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Donnella Narmie, Margaret Fugate and Dorcas Fugate; and four brothers, Carl, Jim, Roy and Earl Fugate.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to Birthright.

I am very sorry for your loss, Uncle Merrill. Aunt Pauline had a good heart. My mom called her Talk Talk, and me Talk Talk 2, after her. When I finally met her, I understood why! I will always remember her with fondness.
