Albert L. Politsch
Albert Politsch, 92, passed away April 21, 2014, at Sunny View Care Facility in Ankeny. He was born April 7, 1922, in Lenzburg, Illinois, to Otto Max and Katharina (Prinz) Politsch.
Albert grew up in Lenzburg with his 13 siblings. After graduating from New Athens High School he entered the Army
in January 1943. His military service took him to St. Petersburg, Florida; Anchorage, Alaska; to the Mojave Desert, then on to Hawaii, Iwo Jima, and the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He returned home as a Sergeant who received a bronze star
and other meritorious awards.
On June 9, 1946, Albert was united in marriage to Ruth R. Baynes. The couple was blessed with three daughters. Albert worked for Iowa Power & Light (Mid American) for 43 years. He enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, and driving to the Saylorville Dam.
Albert is survived by his daughters, Jan Kay (Dale) Street, Ruth Sharon (Michael) Brauer, and Karen Ann (Terry) Harrington; grandchildren, Bret (Kristen) Street, Brad (Marsha) Street, Chad Brauer, Shawn (Melanie) Brauer, Sara (Marvin) Loetz, and April Harrington; great-grandchildren, Maryah, Devin, Dominic, Brooklyn, Trynnity, Caitlin, and Nicholas; brother, Ralph of IL; sister, Helen Mae of TX; and his brother-in-law, Si Baynes Jr. of AZ. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Ruth; his parents, and 11 siblings.
Services will be held at 12:30 p.m., May 2, 2014, at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter.
