Dennis L. Baker, 65, passed away September 12, 2013 at UnityPoint Health Lutheran Hospital. Visitation will be held from 3-6 p.m., Sunday, September 15 at Iles Funeral Homes-Dunn's Chapel, with cremation rites to follow. A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday at the funeral home. Burial with Military and Police Honors will be at Glendale Cemetery.

Dennis was born July 13, 1948 in Des Moines, the son of Ralph and Jackie Baker. He graduated from East High School and Upper Iowa University.

Dennis joined the US Navy reserves in 1967 and served active duty from 1968-1971. He joined the Des Moines Police Department in 1971, where he dedicated 26 years of his life and specialized in accident investigation.

Dennis loved his family and always looked forward to family gatherings, especially where food was involved. He was also an avid Chicago Cubs fan, enjoyed NASCAR, western movies and photography.

Dennis is survived by his children, Scott (Angie) Baker of Pleasant Hill and Jennifer (Steven) Fattig of Des Moines; their mother, Cathy Baker of Des Moines; grandchildren, Kaden Fattig, Kyle (Emily) Fattig and Payton (Felicia) Fattig and a brother, Bruce Baker of Des Moines, as well as many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Donnie.

Memorials may be directed to Iowa C.O.P.S. (Concerns of Police Survivors) or the Des Moines Police Department Burial Association.
