Donald Wayne Bingham
Donald Bingham, 82, passed away at his home under hospice care on Friday, August 16, 2013.
Donald was born May 30, 1931 in Chariton, Iowa to John and Sylvia (Edwards) Bingham. He was a Des Moines resident for the past 56 years. Donald enlisted in the Army
in 1952 and was on the main line of resistance in Satterly Valley, Korea during the Korean Conflict. He retired as a truck driver from American Freight and was a member of American Legion Post 274 and Teamsters Local 147. Donald received the award for an act of bravery from the Governor for pulling someone from a burning car. He was always tinkering and fixing everything. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family.
Donald is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lorna of Des Moines; son, Ricky (Kim) of Des Moines; grandchildren, Rob (Katie), Amy Hesser and Jon Hesser; great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Lexie, Miranda, Nicolas and Victoria; brother, Raymond (Evelene) of Knoxville; sister, Ruth (Dr. Lynn) Crow of Iowa City; and brother, Clinton (Ursula) of Chariton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Randall; great-grandson, Randall; and many siblings.
Private Family Grave Side Service will be held on Monday, August 19, 2013 at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Family will greet friends at a public visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, August 18 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street.
Memorial contributions in Donald's name may be directed to HCI Care Services whose loving care was deeply appreciated or to the Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation.
