Duane L. Heithoff
Duane L. Heithoff, 70, passed away on February 18, 2013 at Karen Acres Healthcare Center from complications related to Parkinson's Disease. He was born in Varina, Iowa to Pete and Mary Heithoff, attended Iowa State University and graduated from Drake University in 1967. He was retired from Mercy Medical Center where he was Director of Patient Accounts. He earned a coveted Fellowship from the Hospital Financial Management Association and was a past President of the Iowa HFMA. He served on several boards over many years. He was instrumental in the restructuring required within the healthcare reimbursement systems with the advent of DRG based billing as well as many other financial projects at Mercy. He honorably served in the Army
Reserve from 1962 to 1970. He felt that his greatest accomplishment was his family.
He is survived by Pat, his wife of 44 years; sons, Marc (Ruth) Heithoff of Clive, Iowa and Brian (Lisa) Heithoff of Lenexa, Kansas; grandchildren, Emma and Joshua; sisters, Marlene Sommerer and Rita Hogan of Omaha, Nebraska; special sister-in-law, Mary Langill of Des Moines, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Jeanne Mortenson.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, February 23 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Care, 7975 University Blvd. in Clive. A memorial mass will be announced at a later date as well as a private family service for disposition of Duane's cremated remains per his wishes.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Karen Acres and Iowa Hospice for their gentle hands and compassionate hearts. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be donated to Karen Acres or Iowa Hospice.
