Eleanor Anne Lindahl Smith

Eleanor Anne Lindahl Smith passed into eternal life on Friday, April 25, 2014 following a stroke in Denton, TX.
Eleanor was born in Chadron, NE on August 30, 1931 to Thelma Kinsloving Lindahl and Lawrence G. Lindahl. She graduated from Irondequoit High School in Rochester New York and then The University of Rochester. She went on to receive her Masters Degree in School Psychology from the University of Iowa
. In 1955 she moved to Des Moines to work as a school psychologist for the Des Moines Public Schools, a career which spanned four decades. She was united in marriage to Stuart L. Smith on August 17, 1957. They were married 54 years until his passing in 2011.
Eleanor was a charter member of Westkirk Presbyterian Church in Urbandale. She was a member of PEO Chapter JK in Des Moines and Questers. She was an active volunteer for many charitable causes over the years.
In 2011, Eleanor moved to Denton, TX where she was active in the Newcomers Club and The First United Methodist Church of Denton. She also volunteered weekly at Denton Christian Preschool for at-risk children.
She is survived by her daughters, Christy Smith of Denton, TX and Laura (John) Homick of Edgewater, MD. In addition she is survived by five grandchildren, Heather, Max, Sam, Sonia, and Mark Homick all of Edgewater, MD.
Visitation will be at Brooks Funeral Care, 7975 University Blvd., Clive on Thursday, May 1, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday, May 2, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Westkirk Presbyterian Church followed by a luncheon. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Gardens.
