Elva May Olson
Elva May Olson, 94, of Polk City, died January 22, 2013. Elva was born May 28, 1918 to Charles and Della Crannell. She was the youngest of five children. She married Orville Olson in 1935 and together they had 3 daughters, Cheryl, LuAnn, and Janice. They made their life together in Polk City, Iowa.
Elva worked at the Ordinance Plant in Ankeny during World War II. She was a loyal American Legion Auxiliary member acting as Past President for Post 232. She retired in 1983 from Iowa State University Research Lab as a Lab Technician.
Elva is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Hoeg (Bob) of Des Moines and Janice Bragg (Jim Byal) of Mingo; three grandchildren, Bradley, Stephanie, and Samantha; seven great-grandchildren; her sister, Dorothy of Altoona, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville; daughter, LuAnn Olson; grandson, Christopher White; brother, LaVerne; and sisters, Letha and Verva.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines, with burial to follow at Polk City Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home.
