Frederick Leo Brown Sr. was born July 11, 1934 in Newton the son of Preston Leo and Pauline Ruth Hummel Brown. He was enlisted in the Army for three years with service in Korea.

On September 23, 1954, he was united in marriage with Betty Arlene Alexander, in Fort Bliss, TX. He worked at Maytag Corporation for 31 years.

Fred was an avid bowler, inducted into the Iowa Bowling Hall of Fame. He was also involved with Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball. Fred was a golf enthusiast.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; five children Frederick Brown Jr., Loretta Brown and Larry Bowman, Preston and Linda Brown, Matthew Brown, Patrick 'Barney' Brown; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Fred passed February 18, 2013, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton at the age of 78.

Visitation will be Friday, February 22 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton from 5 to 7 p.m. with a Vigil service to follow at 7. Funeral services will be Saturday, February 23 at Sacred Heart at 11 a.m. Internment will be at McKeever Cemetery in Colfax at a later date.
