Gerald Dale Cahail
Gerald Dale Cahail died peacefully Wednesday, April 24, surrounded by his sons after a valiant fight with cancer. Gerald was born March 28, 1923 to Voyle (Dick) Robertson Cahail and Florence Edna Hayes in Guthrie Center.
He was a lifelong resident of Guthrie Center and who also served in the US Navy
during World War II
. He married Illa Jean Kirkpatrick on June 1, 1947. He worked for the Iowa State Highway Commission (DOT) for 36 years and enjoyed plowing snow in the winters. He retired in 1985.
Gerald was an avid outdoorsman who loved to take his sons fishing and hunting. He is survived by sons Rick (Barb), Greg (Marcita), both of Des Moines, and Scott (Diana) along with two grandchildren, Blake and Haley, of Kansas City.
He was preceded in death by Illa, his wife of 65 years, his brother, Ivyl Clarence Cahail, and his sister, Genevieve Marie Forristall. Gerald was highly respected for his devotion to his wife and kids and will be greatly missed.
