Jack Fleming, 78, of West Des Moines, died Thursday, March 13, 2014 at the Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday March 17, 2014 at the Powers Funeral Home 612 North Dodge in Afton. Open visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. Sunday at the Powers Funeral Home in Afton, with family receiving friends from 4 - 6 p.m. on Sunday. Pastor Dwayne Henrichs will officiate. Private burial will be in the Greenlawn Cemetery near Afton. Memorials may be made to the Afton Splash Pad and the Afton Volunteer Fire Department. Jack Randall Fleming, son of Blanche Grace (Wickham) and Clarence Shepherd Fleming was born June 25, 1935 in Afton, Ia. He graduated from Afton High School. Jack served our country as part of the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict
After returning home, he was united in marriage to Beth Elaine Gibson in Afton, Iowa on February 8, 1959. They settled in Afton where Jack began his career in the furniture business working for Coen's Furniture. Jack spent his entire career working in furniture sales while they lived in Omaha and Norfolk, Neb. before moving to West Des Moines where he worked in sales and management for Homemakers until 2013 when he retired. Jack was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church in Norfolk, Neb. and the American Legion Post # 16 in Norfolk, Neb.
Jack is survived by his wife Beth Fleming of West Des Moines; his son Joseph Fleming of West Des Moines; three brothers-in-law, Danny and William Gibson and Jack Rusk; two sisters-in-law Jo Lacina, Ann Gibson and many nieces and nephews. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Donald and Stan Fleming, five sisters, Elizabeth Nash, Joanne Foster, Mary Alice Stalker, Carol Rusk and Carmen Danner and dearly loved nieces and nephews.
