Joan Wilson, of Longboat Key, FL, died on Tuesday, May 7, 2013. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 16, 2013, at Dunn's Funeral Home, with burial to follow in the Masonic Cemetery. Joan was born in Des Moines, Iowa, June 12, 1936, and was the daughter of Joseph I. and Jane Clements. She had one sister, Judy, who preceded her in death in 1985. Joan attended Roosevelt High School in Des Moines and after graduating attended Monticello Women's College in St. Louis, transferring to the University of Iowa
in 1955, where she majored in English. In 1956, she met and married Frederick C. Wilson and they have two sons, Joseph and David.
Their life after two years in the military and a few years of working in the States became an international experience where they lived and worked in Europe, Africa, South East Asia and Canada before retiring in 2000. Besides raising her family overseas, Joan's International experience included becoming the editor of an expatriate newspaper in Lagos, Nigeria and start-up and development of an English as a Second Language Program at the International School in Jakarta, Indonesia. During this time she attended a Masters Program from Michigan State University
on International Education, provided through the Jakarta International School. She was awarded special recognition from the University for Papers she wrote on Third World Children. Joan was an accomplished writer and artist.
