John E. Uren
John E. Uren, 80, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Sunday, April 6, 2014. His family received friends from 4-6 pm, Monday, April 7, 2014 at Westover Funeral Home.
John was born July 4, 1933 in Columbia, MO to Andrew W. and Carol (Voos) Uren. He grew up in Columbia and graduated from Hickman High School in 1951. John went on to graduate from the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine in 1957. He opened a large animal veterinary practice with his brother-in-law, James Johns, in West Bend Iowa and served that community for many years. After retiring from his practice, John worked as a technician for the livestock feed industry for 21 years. After his second retirement, John drove a school bus for the Urbandale School System for 14 years.
John's passions in life included hunting and fishing with his children and close friends. He was an avid reader and was always in the process of reading several books. John was dedicated to his family, and was a very generous provider. He was always there to offer help when it was needed.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy of Urbandale; children: James (Lisa) Uren of Kimballton, Charles (Lorei) Uren of Grimes, Scott (Shannon Tyson-Poletti) of Kremmling, CO, Jane (John) Monahan of Fairbanks, AK; daughter-in-law, Jenny Uren of Kremmling, CO; brother, Andrew Uren of Moralton, AR; ten grandchildren and one great grandchild.
