Joseph Domansky


Joseph, 89, passed away December 22, 2013 at Kennybrook Village in Grimes. Per his wishes, he will be cremated and no services will be held.

Joseph Domansky, the son of Frank and Anna Domansky, was born November 20, 1924 in Chicago, IL. He was the youngest of the first generation of his family born in the United States. Joseph enjoyed participating in soccer and gymnastics during high school. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Joseph worked as a mechanical engineer for GTE.

Joseph enjoyed traveling. Some destinations included the West Coast, Hawaii and Europe. He also liked golfing and being outdoors. During his retirement years in Arizona, he was nicknamed Apollo the Sun God. He was a member of Sokol, a Czech and Slovak Heritage organization, and was a Freemason since 1965. Joseph enjoyed music, especially marches and polkas.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of nearly 65 years, Jeri; his granddaughter, Alison Ruth; and his siblings: Frank, Jarmie, Mary and Anne.

Joseph is remembered by his son, Bill (Tamara) Domansky of Urbandale; daughter, Barbara Kaplan of Williamsburg, VA; grandchildren: Scott Domanksy (fiancé Liz Gloor) and Lauren (Robby) McKetta; great-grandson, Robert Emmett; his sisters-in-law, Libbie Domansky and Mildred Jezek; and many nieces and nephews.
