Karen Kay Van Drasek passed away at age 54 after battling breast cancer for 8 years. A celebration of Karen's life will be at Sacred Heart Church, 1627 Grand Ave, West Des Moines on Wednesday, August 21. A visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a service at 10:30 a.m., followed by a lunch. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at the Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, IA.

Karen was born in Adel, Iowa on March 15, 1959 during a snowstorm. She also lived in Edina, MN before settling in West Des Moines. She was our little angel, and will truly be missed. We will continue to love her, with the fondest of memories.

Karen graduated from Valley High School in West Des Moines and went on to Drake University and became a registered nurse. She worked at Methodist Hospital for many years. Since 2005, she enjoyed trips to Puerto Rico, Austria, Hawaii and Las Vegas. She loved baking, sewing, and doing things around the home. Even with cancer she gave her all. Karen was independent and lived life to the fullest.

Karen is survived by her husband, Joe of West Des Moines; mother, Doris Finck of West Des Moines; brother, Kevin Finck (Linda) of Robins, IA; son, Darren Van Drasek (Wendy) of Clive; son, Brian Van Drasek of Moldova, the Peace Corps. She was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Finck in 2011.
