Margaret Baldwin, 95, formerly of Des Moines and Iowa City, passed away December 11, 2012 in Bellingham, where she had lived since 2010. She was born January 15, 1917, in rural North Liberty, Iowa, to Bess and Logan Myers. She graduated from The University of Iowa where she met her former husband, Jervas Baldwin. After moving to Des Moines, Margaret taught English and Special Education for over 30 years at East and North high schools. In her retirement, she returned to Iowa City, devoting time and energy to numerous social and political causes encouraging women's and diversity issues. Her front door was adorned with the stickers and buttons supporting her many convictions. In the 1980's, she joined in peace walks in the USSR, meeting Russians in their homes.

Margaret was generous throughout her long life and loved being with family, visiting friends, playing bridge and traveling. She moved to Bellingham in 2010 to be near her daughter.

She is survived by her son, Tom Baldwin (Chris Conyers), Des Moines, and daughter, Martie Olson (Byron), Bellingham; grandchildren, Tom Baldwin Jr (Annie), Cindy Baldwin (Eric Creach), Elle Baldwin Conyers, Sean Olson (Brandy) and Amy Olson; great-grandchildren, Max, Zach, Gus, Alice, Samantha, Madeline and Logan. Margaret was preceded in death by her brother, Lloyd Myers, and grandson, Jamie Olson. Margaret will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held in the spring in Iowa City.
