Marian A. Jenkins
West Des Moines
Marian A. Jenkins, 88, of West Des Moines, IA passed away at Clarke County Hospital in Osceola, IA on Monday afternoon, April 15, 2013.
She was born December 20, 1924 in Waukon, IA as one of four children of Elmer and Mary Herman. Marian graduated from Waukon High School and graduated from the University of Iowa Nursing School with a Registered Nursing Degree.
On September 19, 1948, she married Hanley F. Jenkins, MD, at the Country Church outside of Waukon, IA. She practiced nursing periodically while raising five children. In 1980, she went back to nursing at Lutheran Hospital for ten years until her retirement.
Marian had many lifelong friends from her involvement with Gyro International in Des Moines. She enjoyed the outdoor life and chose to spend most of her free time outdoors taking long walks. She loved growing flowers and vegetables in her gardens. Her most cherished times were spent taking care of her family and friends.
Her husband of 64 years, Hanley F. Jenkins, MD; parents; brother, Ruben Herman; and sister, Vernell Esch preceded her in death.
She is survived by her children, Hanley Jenkins II; JoLynn Baltzley and husband Rod; Phillip Jenkins and wife Tammy; Patricia Hanneman and husband Joe; and Todd Jenkins and wife Julia; grandchildren, Tia Echeveria and husband Ron; Sarah Spencer and husband Brad; Nathan Jenkins and wife Kristen; Ryan Baltzley and wife Sarah; Adam Hanneman; Alex Hanneman, and Jacob Jenkins and wife Kaitlin; and a brother, Nyles Herman and wife Ruby.
A memorial service will be held on Friday afternoon, April 19, at 1 p.m. at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone, Iowa, with Reverend Don Elly officiating.
Following the service, internment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery west of Boone.
Those wishing to express their sympathies through a memorial may direct their gift to the University of Iowa Student Nursing Program.

In loving memory of a wonderful lady who thought of others, loved & served her family all her life and was just good fun to be around - I shall miss walks in the Florida sunshine with her - looking at gardens, trees, birds. She was a very special lady.
