Marshall J. Lesser, passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2014, in Rock Island, Illinois.
Marshall was born in 1923, the eldest of two children, to Nathan and Etta Lesser in Chicago, Illinois. He grew up and went to school in Moline, Illinois. He graduated from the University of Iowa
with a degree in Engineering. Marshall served in the Army
Air Corps as a flight officer/ navigator from September 1943 through December 1945, during World War II
, earning marksmanship and navigator badges. He worked in sales and plant management throughout his professional career in the Quad Cities.
He married Phyllis Greenblatt in 1946. They had two children. He later married Evelyn Strauch in 1957. He married DeLores Ann Gress in 1983 and they celebrated 30 years of marriage last November. He was a self taught, natural musician. He played the piano professionally and had a particular fondness for jazz and the music of Bix Beiderbeck. His friends and family remember him for his quick wit, sense of humor, and wearing red socks on Saturdays.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, DeLores; son, Paul; daughter, Pam (Jeff Hunt); sister, Charlotte (Richard Preskill), plus numerous step children, grand children, great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his first and second wives, and one step-daughter. May they rest in peace.
Services in celebration of his life will be held at 1 pm, Wednesday, January 15th, at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly at Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport, where his family will greet friends from 11:30 am until time of service. Burial will be in Mt. Nebo Cemetery, Davenport.
