Max Hodges, 78, died Saturday, January 11, 2014 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown from complications of Alzheimer's. He was born January 31, 1935 in Martinstown, Missouri.
Max earned a BA from NE Missouri State University and served in the Navy during the Korean War
. He owned Hodges Insurance Agency for many years on the east side of Des Moines. Max was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Newton and enjoyed gardening, traveling, and nature.
Max is survived by his wife of 27 years, Jean; their daughters, Brie and Emily Hodges; his children from a previous marriage, Gregg Hodges and Kristin Hodges Carlisle, granddaughter, Taylor Carlisle; sister, Loretta Dixon; and a host of other family and beloved friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Christopher and Icel Hodges; and brother, Gerald.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, January 16, 2014 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1900 N. 4th Avenue E. in Newton, with burial to follow at Mitchellville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hamilton's Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW in Altoona.
