Nancy Sue Monaghan, age 63, passed away on December 7, 2012 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at the Bondurant Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 11, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ankeny Funeral Home.
Nancy was born to John and Bernice (Crofta) Miltner on June 25, 1949. She grew up in Cedar Rapids before moving to Ankeny and graduating from Ankeny High School in 1967. On March 22, 1969, Nancy was united in marriage to Thomas Monaghan in Ankeny. Nancy worked in the kitchen for the Bondurant Farrar School systems for many years before retiring in May of 2012. During her life, Nancy enjoyed writing to her pen pals. She had 33 pen pals throughout different parts of the world. She also enjoyed collecting horses, baking, and she had a love for animals, especially cats and dogs. Mostly she loved her children and grandchildren who held a special place in her heart.
Nancy is survived by four children, Mary Monaghan, Katie Monaghan, Dan (Shawna) Monaghan, and Sheila Monaghan; nine grandchildren; sister, Sara (Brian) Hoover; sister-in-laws, Thelma Roush, Betty Monaghan, Peggy Herrington; and brother-in-laws, Jim Monaghan and Bill Monaghan.
She is preceded in death by her husband Thomas Monaghan in February of 2011; and her parents.
