Rex C. Teigen

Rex Teigen, 61, died Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at Bright Kavanagh House of ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines with burial at Resthaven Cemetery.
Rex was born in Sioux City, IA and was raised in Glenwood, IA. He was a graduate and life-long fan of the University of Iowa
, and achieved his Master of Science & Management degree as well as his Certified Financial Planner, Chartered Life Underwriter and Chartered Financial Consultant designations from the American College. He was the youngest agent at Northwestern Mutual Life, at age 29, to be appointed to General Agent. Rex retired after a 30 year career in insurance.
With a nod to his mother and her restaurant, "TRex" graduated from the Iowa Culinary Institute. He enjoyed wowing friends and family with his gourmet creations.
Rex enjoyed coaching his children's soccer teams and traveled throughout the country in his RV to attend his son's speed skating tournaments. He loved golf and was an avid athlete and sports fan including top placement in individual and team national billiards tournaments and competition in local and regional poker series. He was also a founding co-owner of the original Iowa Barnstormers team.
Father, brother, coach, amazing friend - Rex will most be remembered for his sense of humor, love and generosity.
Rex is survived by his son, Nicholas (Jackie Rohr) Teigen of West Des Moines; daughter, Meghan Teigen of Des Moines; granddaughter, Alexas Teigen of West Des Moines; and brothers, Ray (Terry) Teigen of Locust Grove, OK and Larry (Jo Ann) Millage of Omaha, NE. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sandra Ferguson of Omaha, NE; his mother, Luella Smith Teigen Holmes of Glenwood, IA; and his father, Ernest H. Teigen of Lansing, MI.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at McLaren's Chapel. Memorials may be directed to the ALS Association Iowa Chapter or Bright Kavanagh House - Hospice of Central Iowa.
