Robert H. "Bob" Lounsberry
Robert Headlee "Bob" Lounsberry, 90, a resident of Scottish Rite Park, passed from this life on Saturday, January 19, 2013, at Kavanagh House in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 25, at Iles Funeral Homes, Westover Chapel in Des Moines. Burial will follow at Masonic Cemetery in Des Moines.
Bob was born July 17, 1922 in Des Moines, IA, to Harold and Helen (Headlee) Lounsberry. He was a 1941 graduate of Roosevelt High School. Bob was an Army Air Corps veteran during World War II
. He was a pilot in the China-Burma-India theatre, flying 72 missions over the Himalayan mountains. In September of 1947, Bob married Harriett Louise Watkins in Des Moines where they made their home. Bob graduated from Drake University in 1950. He worked as a sales representative with Ortho Pharmaceutical Corp. (J&J) for 36 years, retiring in 1987 as one of the top salesmen for the company over the course of his career. Bob was a member of the Masons, the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine, the Izaak Walton League, and the CBI "Hump" Pilot Association. Bob was an avid worldwide traveler; he enjoyed RV camping, was an outdoor sports enthusiast and enjoyed gardening.
He is survived by his sister, Patricia Ann (Noel) Shanko of Apopka, Florida; three children, Linda (Fred) Berneking of Waterloo, Iowa, Scott Lounsberry of Parker, Colorado and Brian (Edie) Lounsberry of Thiensville, Wisconsin; five grandchildren, Erin (Corey) Fanton, Steven Berneking, Christina (Chase) Keller, Erica Lounsberry and Anna (Joshua) Sawyer; and two great-grandchildren, Amelia Keller and William Sawyer. Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Harriett in 1981.
The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 24, at the funeral home.
