Robert Wayne Steinberger, 82, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2014. Robert was born April 17, 1932 in Urbana, Ohio, where his family settled and established the Steinberger family farm in 1815. Bob attended: Denison University in Granville, Ohio, Ohio State University
in Columbus, Ohio and Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He was a brilliant, witty and playful person who wrote poetry, loved and wrote music and conducted his own dance band. He served as an officer in the USAF from 1953 - 1966. He was a B-52 instructor, navigator and engineer participating in the final hydrogen bomb tests at Easter Island in the Pacific in 1962. He resigned his commission to become an entrepreneur in 1966 starting and growing numerous computer software companies until his retirement.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Gladys (Hupp) Steinberger and Peter G. Steinberger of Newark, Ohio and his wife, Ellen Steinberger of Des Moines, Iowa.
He is survived by his daughter, Sharon Boggs of Williamsburg, Virginia; son, Matthew Steinberger and wife Tanya, (Sprague) of Soldotna, Alaska and son, Jim Steinberger and wife Wanita, (Heckman), parents of Bob's four grandchildren, Justin Steinberger, Christina Steinberger, Melinda Steinberger and Trevor Steinberger all of Waukee, Iowa. The three sons of Ellen Steinberger from a previous marriage, Gary Kephart, Robert Kephart and Michael Bodensteiner all of Des Moines,as well as their children, Bryant, Brandon, Brittany and Mia.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 7 between 6pm and 8pm at Iles Westover Chapel. Funeral services will be Thursday, May 8 at Westover Chapel at 10am followed by interment in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Orilla, Iowa.
