Ron F. McKenzie
Ron McKenzie made his last tee time and cast his last fishing line on Sunday, April 27, 2014. Ron never knew a stranger; people were his life's passion. He was a lifelong salesman who had a zest for life that was unmatched. Ron would meet you with one of his trade mark greetings, "Are you behaving?", "Hi Ho the holly, life is so jolly!" or the favorite, "Do you know what day it is? It's a boot scooting boogie day!". Those friendly greetings endeared him to all people, young and old, whether at a Hoover High School Booster event, Beaverdale Little League, the golf course, in a fishing boat, church, the annual Pig Roast, decorating the neighborhood with Christmas lights, at Holy Trinity and Dowling events, or enjoying a nice mocha at Grounds For Celebration.
Ron graduated from Benson High in Omaha, served in the Air Force then moved to Des Moines.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Maggie; sons, Larry, Scott (Katie), and Mike; and grandchildren, Ian, Sean, and Sarah; many special friends including, Jerry Ward; and thank you to Dr. Thomas R. Buroker. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Lillian; brother, Lorich; and grandson, Eric.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., on Wednesday, April 30, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, located at 3424 Forest Ave., in Des Moines. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, May 1, at the church. Interment will follow at St. Luke's Resurrection Gardens.
Memorials may be made to the John Stoddard Cancer Center.
