Roy Edward Reeves was born April, 5, 1923 and shortly thereafter was adopted by Charles Edward and Lucy Reeves. He passed away February 5, 2014 at Bethany Manor in Story City. Roy graduated from West Bend High School and went to Buena Vista College for two years, before enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1942. Roy was a Paratrooper in the 507th Infantry, joining in the Battle of the Bulge and other major battles. He earned 3 Bronze Stars, a Combat Infantry, and Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, and other accolades during his WW II service, of which he was very proud. After his Honorable Discharge in 1945, he returned to finish his Education Degree, graduating from Buena Vista College. He married Dorothy Jean Wirtz in 1947 and continued his education, completing a Master's Degree and Specialist's Degree at Iowa State College. Roy taught high school in the early years, became an Administrator in education, and served various Iowa school districts. Roy and Jean enjoyed several years of semi-retirement in Bentonville, AR before moving back to Ankeny in 1994. Roy was an active member of the Ankeny community and was well-known for his participation at the Ankeny YMCA and Ankeny United Methodist Church. Roy was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. Those left to miss him are his children, Jacquelin Reeves, Jo Reeves Dieter, Michael (Joan), and Scot (Pam), as well as 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and his many friends. Roy's wishes were to be cremated, and no services will be held at this time. The family will gather this spring for a memorial service and interment. Memorials may be sent to the family, which will later be directed to the Veterans Honor Flight program.
