Ruth Politsch, 91, passed away Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Kavanagh House on 56th Street with her family surrounding her. Ruth's wishes were to be cremated and no services will be held.
Ruth R. Baynes was born April 18, 1921 in Cairo, Illinois to Si and Janice (Gaugh) Baynes. Ruth grew up in Abilene, Kansas before she moved to Des Moines and graduated in 1940 from Roosevelt High School. She then ventured to Houston, Texas to continue her education at Dipperts Commercial College studying Business Administration. Following graduation Ruth accepted a position at Central National Bank as a bookkeeper in Des Moines. She was later promoted to the Budget Loan Department before becoming Head Teller.
On June 9, 1946 Ruth was united in marriage to Albert Politsch. The couple was blessed with three daughters; Jan Kay, Ruth Sharon, and Karen Ann. Ruth left her position at the bank to care for her young family. This allowed Ruth to become very active with her daughters in Brownies, Girl Scouts, and Rainbow for Girls.
When the girls were growing up Ruth returned to work at Ankeny National Bank which became Hawkeye State Bank, she retired in 1985.
Ruth also became a dedicated member of the Webster PTA in Oskaloosa, Masonic Organization, Eastern Star, White Shrine, Ankeny Woman's Club, and YMCA board member. She was also an 18 year volunteer at "On With Life" in Ankeny.
Ruth also enjoyed going to plays, musicals, and the Springwood Movie Theatre and reviewed many films with her friend and theatre manager, Adam.
Ruth is survived by her husband of 66 years, Al; daughters, Jan Kay (Dale) Street, Ruth Sharon (Michael) Brauer, and Karen Ann (Terry) Harrington; grandsons, Bret (Kristen) Street, Brad (Marsha) Street, Chad Brauer, and Shawn (Melanie) Brauer; granddaughters, Sara (Marvin) Loetz, and April Harrington; great-grandchildren, Maryah Ann, Devin, Dominic, Trynitty, Caitlin, and Nick; and her brother, Si Baynes a.k.a. "Bob Steele". She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Nicky Huth.
Ruth left a short message for her family and friends, "I had a wonderful life and I have enjoyed all of it." To my loved ones, close friends, and Perky Penguins; "May you always walk in sunshine, may all your dreams come true, and may the blue birds of happiness always be with you."
