Sandra Sue (Boysen) Gubser, 79, passed away April 7, 2014 at Heritage Court Assisted Living in West Des Moines. She was born September 2, 1934 in Waterloo, IA and lived there until she graduated from high school in 1952. Sandy attended Iowa State University for 3 years, during this time she was a Homecoming Queen finalist and a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. She also did modeling for the Green Gander Magazine at I.S.U. and Trends Magazine. During college she met and married Dr. Robert K. Gubser. They lived in Fort Sam Houston, TX for 2 years.

In October of 1957, they moved to Bagley and started a Veterinary practice. During the next 13 years Sandy helped with the business by answering the phones, operating the 2-way radio, bookkeeping and running the office. She dearly loved her family and was a wonderful mother and wife. During the next 23 years of living in Bagley, Sandy was involved in many community activities. She was mayor of Bagley for 2 years, was active in the Bagley Methodist Church where she served as lay leader, was a Sunday school teacher, and had served several positions on the Church Board. She originated the Bagley Community Betterment Council and 50 plus club. Sandy served on the State Extension Advisory Council for 3 years and was chairwomen on her 3rd year. She also served on the State Committee for Planning an Advisory for the Des Moines watershed. At age 50, Sandy completed her last year of college at I.S.U. Her major was Art and Design. Among her many interests were sewing, stained glass, metal art, home decorating, and socializing with people.

Sandy was so proud to be a 50 year member of P.E.O. This organization brought her much joy and many close friendships. One of her greatest thrills was when both daughters, Julie and Terrie, and granddaughter, Jennifer, were initiated into P.E.O.

Sandy is survived by her children, Julie (Jim) Dahlke, Earlham, IA, Terrie (Jerry) Toms, Indianola, IA, and Nick (Amy) Gubser, Elkhorn, NE; grandchildren, Jennifer (Scot) Christenson, Jason (Jessica Hemann) Chaloupka, Jessica (John) Laurie, Brandon (Poe) Toms, Spencer and Grant Gubser; great-grandchildren, Toby Laurie and Colton Christenson; one sister, Beverly Cameron; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for Cottey College which is affiliated with P.E.O. or UnityPoint Hospice.

The family wants to thank Heritage Court Assisted Living for the kind care mom received during her year with them and also UnityPoint Hospice for being there when she needed them.

A visitation will be held from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at McLaren's Chapel in West Des Moines with a prayer service at 4:30 p.m.
