Scott R. Shook
Scott R. Shook, 42, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2013 in Des Moines, Iowa from Neuroendocrine Carcinoid Cancer. Scott was born on April 22, 1970 in Guthrie Center, Iowa. Upon graduating from Guthrie Center High School in 1989, Scott served in the United States Air Force. His travels with the Armed Forces took him to Texas, Virginia, Florida, and The Netherlands. After his service with the Air Force, Scott worked as a mechanic at Western Auto and Charles Gabus Ford. In 1998, Scott purchased his first Semi and drove the surrounding states of Iowa for Oberg Freight.
In 1997, Scott married Brenda Russell, his wife of 15 years. From this union two children were born, Zoie (14) and Kaden (9). In January of 2009, Scott was diagnosed with Neuroendocrine Carcinoid Cancer. This did not stop Scott from enjoying life to the fullest. He was a liver transplant recipient. An honor he never took lightly. Scott's greatest joy were his children, family, and countless friends. Scott enjoyed hunting, being an active 4-H volunteer, a member of the American Legion, watching and participating in his children's activities.
Scott will be remembered as a kind, trusting, and loyal friend. He will always be known as a fighter and our forever hero. Scott is survived by his wife, Brenda; children, Zoie & Kaden Shook; parents, Gene & Karean (Kelsey) Shook all of Guthrie Center; sister Gail of Ames; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents. Funeral services will be Tuesday March 12, 2013 at 10 a.m. in Guthrie Center's High School gymnasium. Visitation will be Monday March 11, 2013 from 4 to 8 p.m. with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Guthrie Center.
