A beloved husband, father, grandfather and talented writer, Stan Pshonik, died in Des Moines on Tuesday, February 25, 2014. Though his life defies summary, Stan described himself as follows:
"My name is Stan Pshonik. If you'd attempt to pronounce my last name, here is a hint: it's PSHONIK. Just like it is spelled. As they say about people of my age-I'VE BEEN AROUND! Now, prepare to read a long list of what I was during all these years:
a newspaperman, a teacher, a soldier and an officer,
advertising, marketing communications executive,
an engineering project manager,
a Russian language instructor.
But first and foremost-I am a writer with over 750 newspaper and magazine articles and several books published in my native language back in Latvia before 1976 and in the USA after 1976. Now retired from an international engineering company headquartered in the heart of America, I enjoy spending time with my three grandchildren, helping my family with chores, and, of course, - writing my short stories. In English!
That pretty much sums it up."
Stan is survived by his wife of 45 years, Lora Pshonik; son, Garry (Mary) Pshonik; daughter, Vicky (Brad) Strand; grandchildren, Ari Pshonik and Alyssa and Evan Strand; niece, Ilana Raynes as well as other nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Boris and Anna Pshonik and sister, Galina Raynes.
Stan chose to be cremated. A Memorial Gathering will be held from Noon until 2 p.m. TODAY, Thursday, February 27 at Iles Dunn's Chapel. Online condolences are welcome at www.IlesCares.com
