Vernon R. Oldsen, age 72 of Valeria, died Tuesday, November 13, 2012, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the Howard Street Christian Church in Colfax. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 19, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax. The son of Henry and Joyce (Brown) Oldsen, Vern was born on July 2, 1940, in Davenport, Iowa. On March 4, 1967, he was united in marriage to Kathy Poulson in Mingo. Vern served on the Valeria City Council for several years. He and Kathy loved to square dance and belonged to several square dancing clubs. Vern also enjoyed going to the Newton Speedway for races, watching football and camping.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Kathy of Valeria, his children, Nichol "Nicki" Oldsen of Ankeny, Penny (Mike) Juoni of Denver, Colorado, Robert "Robbie" Oldsen of Valeria and David (Cerri) Oldsen also of Valeria; four grandchildren, Maverick and Wyatt Oldsen, Amber (Brian) Ash and Alyssa Juoni and a great grand daughter, Destiny. Also surviving is a sister, Lois Whitehouse of Englewood, Colorado, and his brothers, Delmar (Polly) Oldsen of Denver, Colorado, Bill (Judi) Oldsen of Denver, Colorado, Raymond Jodi) Oldsen of Wheatridge, Wyoming, Gene Oldsen of Kansas, and Jerry Oldsen of Bailey, Colorado. Preceding Vern in death were his parents, and two sisters, Joan and Joyce.
