Violet Marie Casady, 88, died in Scottsdale, AZ, on Thursday, April 11, 2013, after a long illness. For over a year, she was lovingly cared for by her daughter Marilyn and son-in-law, Frank.

After cremation in AZ, a service will be held Thursday, May 16, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (1627 Grand Avenue, West Des Moines), with a visitation at 11:30 a.m. and Funeral Mass at 12:30 p.m. Interment will be at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines. Afterward, there will be a light meal at the church.

Violet was born in St. Paul, MN, on October 7, 1924. She graduated from Humboldt High School in St. Paul in 1942. She married Harold Casady in 1944, and they moved to Des Moines in 1946. Violet was an active member of St. John's Catholic Church and was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader.

She worked at Lozier Florist and then at the U.S. Farmers Home Administration, retiring in 1987. She went back to work for the Iowa Pork Producers Assn., Iowa Soybean Assn., and Blood Bank of Central Iowa. She also worked at WHO Radio where listeners knew her as Fluffy Croissant.

Violet was preceded in death by her parents, David and Mary Peterson; her husband of 58 years, Harold; her brother, Harold (Frances) and brother, Edward (Madge).

Survivors include her three daughters: Mary (Ken) Ptak of West Palm Beach, FL, Martha Perry of Des Moines, and Marilyn (Frank) Catalano of Mesa, AZ; her sister, Gladys (Edward) Ramsay of West St. Paul, MN; twelve grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Iowa Hospice, or in Phoenix, AZ.
