William A. Steel, Jr. 86, of Ames, passed away August 23, 2013 at Mary Greeley Medical Center. The family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 27th at Adams Funeral Home in Ames. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 28th, also at Adams Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Gilbert Cemetery.
William Arthur Steel, Jr. was born May 2, 1927 to William Arthur, Sr. and Nina (McDowell) Steel in Ames, Iowa. William served in the United States Army during WWII
serving from 1946-1952, Bill received the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal Japan and then married Florence Elma Parks. He worked as a farmer and at the National Animal Disease Lab in Ames. William was a member of Grace Bible Church in Gilbert, American Legion Post #37 and several coffee clubs. In his free time, he enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing. William loved his work and time visiting with friends.
William is survived by his wife, Florence, of Ames; four sons, Jim (Susan) Steel, Ron Steel, David Steel and Gary (Deb) Steel; one daughter, Marianne (John) Loseke. seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; his sister, Harriett Wearth; and his brother, Frank (Joyce) Steel.
