Marie Weidner Obituary

Marie Weidner

Marshalltown

Marie K. Weidner, 93, of Marshalltown, IA passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center. Arrangements were entrusted to the Main St. Chapel of the Anderson Funeral Homes. Online condolences may be sent to www.andersonfhs.com

Marie was born to Anna Faust in Omaha, NE June 5, 1919. She met a handsome American soldier, Charles J. Weidner, who she married on June 28, 1943. Marie and Charles were longtime residents and raised all three of their children in Marshalltown. She was a member of St. Henry's Church, Elk Ladies, and The American Legion Auxiliary.

She loved being with her family and friends. She enjoyed bowling, fishing and golfing. She played her last golf celebrating her 90th birthday with her family at the American Legion.

She both loved and was frustrated by the Chicago Cubs and the Iowa Hawkeyes, but rooted for her teams loyally. She was known to enjoy the occasional (or daily) bourbon and water and holds the unofficial family record for most slot machine winnings by a member over the age of 85.

Marie is survived by her loving children, Pat (Lavern) Reece of Ankeny IA, Sandy (John) Phillips of Red Oak IA, and Jerry (Carol Rostad) Weidner of Maple Grove MN; grandchildren Jeff (Dawn) Reece, Scott (Joanie) Reece, Jodie Toft, Christopher (Kari) Phillips, and Jessica (Mark) Rinehart; and nine beautiful great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother Anna Faust: husband Charles, brother Ray & Dorthy Faust, and son-in-law Lavern.

A private celebration of Marie's life will be celebrated at a later date and will most likely include the aforementioned golf and bourbon in her honor. Her family and friends will miss a very special lady with a quick wit and beautiful smile, whose humor and wisdom will continue to brighten and guide her family. It was a pleasure to know Marie Weidner and those who she touched are blessed to have had her in their lives.
