Odius Eugene "Odie" Piper, 87, passed away Monday, April 7, 2014, at Mercy Hospital.

Odie was born August 17, 1926, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of George and Mildred (Furman) Piper. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII and in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Odie was the business manager of the City of Des Moines Municipal Laborers Local 353. He was a member of Home Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite. He was a lifelong member of Sheridan Park United Methodist Church and a Boy Scout leader. Odie enjoyed square dancing and hunting. He liked spending time outdoors, farming, gardening, and camping.

Odie is survived by his children: Steve, Dennis, Janice Park, and Loretta Pierson; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and brother, Carroll Piper.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joan; son, Craig Piper; daughters, Elaine Millard and Jackie Howser; and brother, Charles Piper.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2014 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 11, also at the funeral home, followed by burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Sheridan Park United Methodist Church in loving memory of Odius.
