Alyce M. Walter, 71, of West Des Moines died at the Bright Kavanagh House, Monday, August 15, 2011.
She was born March 25, 1940 in Manchester to Russell and Ella (Coleson) Lewis. She married James C. Hayden in California in 1957. They divorced. Alyce married Charles "Chuck" E. Walter in Galena, Ill., in 1972.
Alyce attended school in Waterloo and worked in the health care field until 2005. After moving to West Des Moines in 2006, she worked as a food demonstrator.
Alyce cherished her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She loved to spend time with them playing games, reading books or just watching television with them. To relax, Alyce would spend time crocheting blankets for all her grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
Survived by: three daughters, Jo K. Walter of Clarksville, Angella M. (Gary) Petersen of Dayton, OH, Rebecca A. (Charles) Hickman of Baltimore, MD.; four sons, Charles "Chuck" E. Walter, Jr. of Lake Havasu City, AZ., , Curtis "Curt" L. Walter of Waterloo, Randall M. (Karla) Walter of West Des Moines and Russell M. (Diana) Walter of Owasso, OK.; 15 grandchildren; eleven great -grandchildren; four brothers, Virgil (Brenda) Lewis of Manchester, Dick (Harriet) Lewis and Darrel (Barb) Lewis, both of Waterloo, and David (Nancy) Lewis of Riverside Calif.
Preceded in death by: her husband, Chuck Walter; three brothers; James, Bryce and Edward.
Services: 10 a.m. Friday at First Church of the Open Bible with internment in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway and continue for one hour before services at the church on Friday.
